Kim-Shapiro lab helps discover why stored blood deteriorates

Prof. Kim-Shapiro
Dr. Kim-Shapiro and several members of his research group were part of a team of scientists who have reported progress on the mechanisms that might cause blood transfusions using stored blood lead to complications including infection, organ failure and death. The research group at Wake Forest's Physics Department who contributed to the recent results reported in the journal Circulation include Dr. Kim-Shapiro, graduate student Chen Liu,undergraduate student Hannah Reynolds, and recent alumnus, Ivan Azarov, Ph.D. For more details see
