Kim-Shapiro lab helps discover why stored blood deteriorates
Dr. Kim-Shapiro and several
members of his research group were part of a team of scientists who
have reported progress on the mechanisms that might cause blood
transfusions using stored blood lead to complications including
infection, organ failure and death. The research group at Wake
Forest's Physics Department who contributed to the recent results
reported in the journal Circulation include Dr. Kim-Shapiro, graduate
student Chen Liu,undergraduate student Hannah Reynolds, and recent
alumnus, Ivan Azarov, Ph.D. For more details see http://news.wfu.edu/2011/07/14/safer-blood-transfusions/.
