Physics Colloquium: Martin Seifrid on Data-Driven Organic Materials
Wake Forest Physics will host Prof. Martin Seifrid of North Carolina State University on Thursday, September 3, for “Establishing the Data-Driven Organic Materials Lab.” A reception begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Olin lobby, followed by the colloquium from 4 to 5 p.m. in Olin 101. Registration is not required.
Seifrid studies organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors, materials used in sensing, bioelectronics, and energy devices. He will explain how his group combines automated experiments, uncertainty-aware machine learning, Gaussian-process models, and detailed experimental records to select useful experiments and compare results across chemistries and laboratories.
Seifrid earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2019. He later completed postdoctoral work with Alán Aspuru-Guzik at the University of Toronto, where he worked on autonomous molecular design, automated synthesis and characterization, and organic lasing materials.
