Wake Physics is proud to announce that graduate student Evan Kumar has been selected for the 2026 Office of Naval Research (ONR) Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP).

Evan will spend the summer at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, DC, working with leading scientists on quantum‑enhanced spectroscopy. His internship project builds directly on the research he has been pursuing in the Ultrafast and Quantum Optical Spectroscopy Group, led by Ajay Kandada, where he investigates next‑generation quantum optical methods for probing emerging materials.

This national‑level recognition highlights Evan’s scientific promise and reflects the growing impact of Wake Forest’s research in quantum optics and spectroscopy. His selection places him among a distinguished cohort of students contributing to mission‑driven research at one of the nation’s premier federal laboratories.
