Prof. Shailesh Chandrasekharan of Duke University will present “Building Our Universe with Qubits” at the Wake Forest Physics Colloquium on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 4 p.m. in Olin 101. A reception begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Olin Lobby.

The talk explores whether the theories used to describe particles and their interactions can emerge from quantum systems built from qubits, the basic units of quantum computing. Chandrasekharan will introduce the ideas behind this approach and discuss recent results in simple models, including how features of the Standard Model can arise when quantum field theories are formulated using qubits.

Chandrasekharan joined Duke’s Physics Department in 1998 after earning his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1996.
